Hugh L. Butler
Born: November 25, 1937
On the morning of February 2, 1968,
Officer Butler and his partner responded to a disturbance call at a tavern, 3502
Troost. It was reported that a man was armed with a gun. Upon entry into the
tavern, they were met with gun fire from someone on the inside of the tavern.
Officer Butler's partner was shot in the right arm. Officer Butler was then shot
by the same assailant and was dead upon arrival at Menorah Hospital.

George E. Lanigan
Born: February 10, 1933
On April 12, 1968, Officer Lanigan,
while assisting an F.B.I. agent, was attempting to arrest a suspect wanted on a
warrant at a small trailer court just north of Parvin and Antioch Rd. The
suspect fired on Officer Lanigan as he came through the doorway, killing him.
The suspect was then caught and arrested.

Larry D. Oliver
On April 18, 1968, Officer Oliver was
chasing a speeding suspect on 12th Street in the West Bottoms and while trying
to avoid a car, lost control of his motorcycle. Officer Oliver became pinned
between a guard rail and a brick building at the corner of 12th and Genessee.
Officer Oliver was transported to Menorah Hospital where he died of his
injuries.

David C. Woodson
On August 12, 1968, Officer Woodson was
struck by a vehicle in the downtown area of Kansas City and died of his injuries

Ronald D. Yoakum
On November 26, 1968, Officer Yoakum was
dispatched with two other officers on a disturbance. When one of the officers
went into the residence without waiting for his backup, he was disarmed by the
suspect. The suspect in turn shot and killed Officer Yoakum with the department
revolver, and also injured Officer Yoakum's partner. The first officer on the
scene was not injuried.
