Alarm Section (816) 889-1493 Alarm
Ordinance
The
of purpose Kansas City's alarm ordinance is to reduce the number of police
dispatches to false alarms. The ordinance encourages alarm users and alarm
businesses to properly utilize alarm systems and to maintain their operational
reliability. The ordinance requires that all users obtain an alarm permit from
the Police Department.
Business permits are invoiced for each false alarm
commencing with the first false alarm in the prior permit year. There is no limit on the renewal fee of a
business permit.
There are three types of alarm permits: Residential Permits, Business Permits and Master Permits.
Residential Permits are issued to individual
homes, Business Permits are issued to commercial
sites and Master Permits are issued to apartment
complexes of six or more units where an alarm system is included as an amenity.
The initial fee for all alarm permits is $45.00.
Renewal
Fee
The renewal fee is based on the number of false alarms
occurring at the site during the previous permit year. An Alarm Permit renews
for free if you have no false alarms during the permit year. A false alarm is
defined as “an alarm signal eliciting a police response when a situation
requiring an immediate response does not in fact exist, such as no breach of
security has been attempted or committed”. At the end of the permit year,
renewal fees are invoiced at $40 per false alarm.
Residential permits are invoiced for false alarms exceeding two. The maximum
renewal fee for a residential alarm is $120.
