 The Kansas
City, Missouri Police
Department is recognized as one of the most progressive police departments in
the country. Community Oriented Policing is utilized by patrol officers
assigned to Community Actions Teams (CAT) and Community Actions Networks (CAN).
These officers work with citizens to find solutions to neighborhood problems.
The Department is comprised of approximately 1400 dedicated law enforcement
officers supported and assisted by approximately 700 equally committed civilian
employees. Police officers have unlimited opportunities to learn different
aspects of law enforcement from Investigations, Canine, Helicopter, Traffic and
Tactical Response operations.

Police Department works
hard to improve their city.
A new officer receives six
months of training at the
Departments Regional Training
Academy. After the Academy
training, new officers receive
their police officer commission.
The new officer must now
complete a six-month probationary
period of which the first
ten weeks are spent with
a Field Training Officer.
