If you want job security, good pay and good benefits, it is the right choice. Once you are a member of the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department You can always make lateral transfers to jobs you are qualified for as openings become available.

The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department also offers more than six hundred civilian positions. There are many career choices as a civilian member of the department. The Employment Unit has many positions such as Call taker, Detention Facility Officer, Patrol Desk Clerk, Police Records Clerk, Maintenance Custodian, and Investigative Typist.

 

 

To become a police officer, you must complete academy training. As a recruit, you receive full salary during your entire six-month academy training. There is then a six-month probationary period. The first eight weeks of probation are spent with a Field Training Officer. The new officer is subject to assignment at one of the five patrol stations and may transfer to a specialized unit after three years in patrol. There are many lateral job opportunities. Police officers can transfer to specialized units such as the Canine Unit, Helicopter Unit, or one of the many investigative units such as Homicide or Robbery.

 

There are several positions that become open periodically such as Accounts Administrator, Automotive Mechanic, Automotive Body Mechanic, Automotive Services, Building Security, Computer Operator, Crime Scene Technician, Evidence Custodian, Network Specialist, Parking Control Officer, Parking Facility Attendant, Police Dispatcher, Police Typist, Programmer, Software Analyst, just to name a few!

For students graduating high school, we can offer a career with a stable income and community leadership, as well as educational assistance. We do not ask for experience, we provide a paid educational start.

 

The opportunity for advancement is great. After completing the necessary time in patrol, an officer has the opportunity to transfer to another assignment within the department.
