Out of town applicants should be aware we require that they make as many as
three trips to Kansas City to complete the process, at the applicants expense.

1. Written Examination / P.O.S.T. Test
All applicants must take the Police Officer Selection Test (P.O.S.T.) which
is administered by the Kansas City, Mo. Police Department. (Sample
assessment tests available) The P.O.S.T. is
designed to measure an individual's ability in mathematics, reading
comprehension, grammar and writing. The test is based on a 12th grade difficulty
level. A minimum score of 70% is required in each category.
2. Physical Abilities Test Click

The Physical Abilities Test is an obstacle course designed to simulate
obstacles that may be encountered during an officer's tour of duty. Applicants
must show their ability to maneuver through the course with minimal errors. Out
of state applicants will take the physical abilities test the day following the
written examination.
3. Pre-employment Polygraph Examination
Applicants will be given a polygraph examination administered by a qualified
Polygraph Examiner. The test will cover criminal activity, drug usage,
truthfulness, integrity and employment history.
4. Background Investigation
The background investigation will cover pertinent facts about the applicants
character, work history and any criminal or traffic record.
5. Oral Interview
A series of questions will be asked to assess skills in dealing with people,
problem solving, communication, initiative and stress tolerance.
6. Psychological Examination
A test and interview with a certified psychologist. (After a job offer has
been made)
7. Physical Examination
Applicants will undergo a complete medical and eye examination given by a
licensed physician.(After a job offer has been made)
Many factors affect the expected duration of the hiring process. Completing
the entire process could take several months. Applicants who successfully
complete each phase of the hiring process are placed in an eligibility pool.
