KCPD officer shoots suspect wanted in fatal shooting of Kansas officer

Just after 2:30 p.m today, KCPD officers saw a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle being pursued by Kansas law enforcement. KCPD officers pursued the vehicle to the area of Bannister Road and 71 Highway. As the suspect vehicle exited 71 Highway southbound at Bannister,  the driver lost control and hit a concrete bridge post under 71 Highway.

The suspect then jumped out of the vehicle  and ran up a hill to 71 Highway. The suspect attempted to car jack a vehicle that was going northbound on 71. The suspect shot the female driver of the vehicle he was attempting to take. The female victim drove off, and the suspect ran back over to the shoulder of the highway, where he was shot by a KCPD officer.

The female victim was transported to a local hospital in non life-threatening condition. The suspect also was transported to a local hospital in non life-threatening condition.
