Special Closed Session Meeting of the Board of Police Commissioners on December 29, 2022

Below are the votes from the special closed session meeting of the Board of Police Commissioners on December 29, 2022, with Commissioners Tolbert, Dean, and Cramer and Mayor Lucas participating via Webex (Commissioner Wagner was absent from the entire meeting with an excused absence and Commissioner Dean was absent from the open session):

 

At 9:05 a.m., following a motion by Mayor Lucas and a second by Commissioner Cramer, the Board voted to go into special closed session to discuss personnel matters.  The vote was 3-0 in favor.   Following polling, Commissioner Tolbert voted Aye, Commissioner Cramer voted Aye, and Mayor Lucas voted Aye.

 

Commissioner Dean joined the meeting at 9:15 a.m.

 

Following a motion by Mayor Lucas and a second by Commissioner Dean, the Board voted to waive the requirement under § 84.590, R.S.Mo., that a police officer, to be eligible for promotion, shall have served at least two years in the rank from which he is to be promoted, and approve the promotion of Major Luis E. Ortiz to be Deputy Chief of the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department.  The vote was 4-0 in favor.   Following polling, Commissioner Tolbert voted Aye, Commissioner Dean voted Aye, Commissioner Cramer voted Aye, and Mayor Lucas voted Aye.

 

Following a motion by Commissioner Dean and a second by Mayor Lucas, the Board voted to come out of special closed session and adjourn.  The vote was 4-0 in favor.   Following polling, Commissioner Tolbert voted Aye, Commissioner Dean voted Aye, Commissioner Cramer voted Aye, and Mayor Lucas voted Aye.

 

The Board adjourned at 8:27 a.m.
