This week, KCPD received the Leadership in Law Enforcement Research Award from the International Association of Chiefs of Police for its Risk-Based Policing (RBP) strategy.

The award recognizes an agency demonstrating excellence in conducting and using research to improve police operations & public safety. The newer approach of RBP, implemented citywide in 2019, helps reverse policing’s tendency to over-rely on enforcement and instead seeks a balance between prevention and response.
