Two KCPD officers took home awards from the Mid America CIT Council on May 1.

Officer Teurika Humphrey received three awards for her work, including the Mid America CIT Council Officer of the Year. Sergeant Ashley McCunniff received the CIT Coordinator of the Year.

KCPD is invested in helping people suffering from mental illness. It’s why the majority of officers are trained in Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). This training helps officers recognize the signs associated with mental illness and emphasizes de-escalation techniques.
