At the 36th Annual Candlelight Vigil held at the National Mall in Washington D.C., fallen Officer Jim Muhlbauer was honored and recognized the night of May 13.

Muhlbauer is one of 282 law enforcement officers who were honored and whose names were added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial.

Muhlbauer’s family, Chief Stacey Graves, and other department members were in attendance, along with an estimated 30,000 others who came to remember the officers’ service and ultimate sacrifice.

In 2023, there were 118 federal, state, tribal, and local law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty. Through research, another 164 officers who died in previous years were also recognized and inscribed on the memorial wall.

Muhlbauer and his partner, K-9 Champ, died when another driver struck their vehicle at a high rate of speed on Feb. 15, 2023.
